Holland at its Best During the Spectacular Pre-Race Show of the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix
National Anthem Performed by Duncan Laurence
Before the start of today’s Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix, the 100,000 racing fans at Circuit Zandvoort were treated to a series of unforgettable moments. The highlights of the Pre-Race Show included a flag parade with 92,000 flags and a remarkable rendition of the national anthem by Duncan Laurence.
The Pre-Race Show and Opening Ceremony before the start were a seamless sequence of spectacular mini-shows and acts, kicked off by a special Driver’s Parade. The drivers rode in a beautifully designed float, adorned with dahlias, followed by a Formula 1 car completely covered in flowers.
A total of 150,000 dahlias were used for this floral spectacle. The Dutch Grand Prix, in collaboration with the Bloemencorso Bollenstreek Foundation, once again showcased a beautiful piece of Dutch promotion to the world.
Shortly before the race, Kris Kross Amsterdam, Tino Martin, and the Showfanfare Advendo Sneek provided the musical backdrop for the Pre-Race Show, and with just fifteen minutes to go, the Netherlands’ most famous and world-renowned illusionist, Hans Klok, magically made the sporting director Jan Lammers appear on stage, along with the winner’s trophy.
As a grand finale, Eurovision Song Contest winner Duncan Laurence delivered an emotional rendition of the Dutch national anthem, “Wilhelmus,” from behind his piano, in full view of the Royal Family. Subsequently, 92,000 fans in the stands, encouraged by Tino Martin, participated in the largest flag parade ever held at a Dutch sporting event.
An Incredible Fan Experience
Formula 1 Management also values the unique entertainment factor of the Dutch Grand Prix, as emphasized by Louise Young, Director of Race Promotion for Formula 1, this weekend in Zandvoort. “Zandvoort is a very special race on the Formula 1 calendar, combining a rich heritage with an incredible fan experience. This sets a high standard for other events. Even in challenging weather conditions, Dutch fans turned out in large numbers for Super Friday. That deserves a compliment to the fans.”
Start
The start was won by Verstappen and created an elated atmosphere in the stands when Max Verstappen had passed Lando Norris before the Tarzan bend after the start.
