VolkerWessels: Proud of What Has Been Built in Zandvoort

VolkerWessels has been involved in the return of Formula 1 to Zandvoort since the very beginning. The renovation of the circuit led by the Dutch family business, contributed to unprecedented success of the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix in recent years.

VolkerWessels is, in short, a large construction company primarily active in the construction, real estate, and infrastructure sectors. “We are not directly visible, unlike when a product is on the supermarket shelves. But we are a company that almost every Dutch person indirectly deals with daily, whether they are in a car or a train or making a phone call,” summarizes Marnix Drysdale, Director of Strategic Partnerships at VolkerWessels.

Umbrella

This is one of the reasons why VolkerWessels, after committing to the initiators at the very beginning, also became one of the important Event Supporters of the event. “An event that, with the support of many parties and especially the thousands of racing fans, has grown into one of the most appreciated Grand Prix of the season. We are proud of what has been built in Zandvoort over the past few years, both literally and figuratively.”

Drysdale adds, “We wanted to tell our story through a broad and large platform. Few people know that around 130 companies under the umbrella of VolkerWessels work daily on beautiful, but also socially important, projects. We are a fantastic Dutch family business and in Zandvoort we can show what we have to offer. A company that any Dutch person could feel a certain pride for. That’s the message we want to convey.”

Not only did VolkerWessels play a significant role in the renovation and beautification of Circuit Zandvoort with the help of Italian architect Jarno Zaffelli. Drysdale states, “We do the regular maintenance, but we also recently expanded the pit lane and the pit boxes.”

Talent in the Job Market

For VolkerWessels, the Dutch Grand Prix serves multiple purposes. “For us, the Dutch Grand Prix is a great way to connect our 17,000 employees. Besides the activities within the company surrounding the race, we also offer them the opportunity to serve as volunteers during the Grand Prix.”

Additionally, VolkerWessels uses the Dutch Grand Prix to attract young talent in the job market. VolkerWessels is therefore launching a new campaign this year: Meemakers, jobs you really have to experience. “We have three fantastic and exclusive Technical Traineeships at the event, where the selected candidates will experience what happens behind the scenes at the Dutch Grand Prix for three days. Thousands of young candidates are expected to apply at https://www.werkenbijvolkerwessels.nl/meemakers. Ultimately, we can only select three candidates who will really experience it, with the remaining talent we would also like to get in touch to see if we can offer them a career within the company.”
