This was the Dutch Grand Prix 2024!
The Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix 2024 is over, and what a spectacle it was! Lando Norris secured the victory at the Zandvoort circuit, which will make the rest of the season even more exciting.
Relive the Dutch Grand Prix
For those who can’t get enough of the Dutch Grand Prix, you can relive the entire weekend through this race mode and get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look. Choose between the Pre-Race Week, Super Friday, Qualifying Saturday, and Sunday Raceday to read the live blog and make sure you don’t miss any details.
Looking ahead to 2025
It was a weekend to remember, and expectations for next year are high. The Dutch Grand Prix returns to Zandvoort on August 29, 30, and 31, 2025. Want to make sure you don’t miss a moment of the racing spectacle? Then be sure to get your tickets on time!
‘Golden’ Harrie Lavreysen sprints with Charles Leclerc at the Circuit Zandvoort
On a golden bike, Harrie Lavreysen zoomed through the sharp Hugenholtz corner at the Zandvoort circuit today. Right behind him was Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc, an enthusiastic amateur cyclist. The two sports heroes exchanged some experiences during their encounter.
Leclerc arrived with his pant legs tucked into his white socks, a precaution every cyclist can relate to. Lavreysen was already waiting for him at the Hugenholtz corner. The Dutch cycling phenomenon was impressed by the attention Formula 1 attracts. “My father is a big fan, and I try to watch as much as possible myself, but I hadn’t been here before. When it’s full, it will be very impressive,” said the track cyclist before he and Leclerc did a short uphill sprint together. He also challenged the French driver to a track stand, but the Ferrari team leader found that a bit too risky just a few days before the race.

Max Verstappen: "I Enjoy Coming Here"
Arrange a press conference on the eve of the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix with three drivers including Max Verstappen, and you can be sure that 99% of the questions will be directed at him. This afternoon, Verstappen (Red Bull), Esteban Ocon (Alpine F1), and Zhou Guanyu (Sauber) kicked off in a packed room of Dutch and international journalists, and as expected, the Dutch driver was the most talked-about.
200th Grand Prix
For Verstappen, the Dutch GP this weekend is his 200th race. He has already won 61 of them. When asked if he sees himself racing another 200 times, his answer was clear: no. The next question was whether he would also stop being a Formula 1 driver after his contract with Red Bull ends in 2028. His answer was less definitive. “At the moment, I’m not thinking about a new contract and I’m not looking too far ahead. Everything is still open.” Verstappen did, however, share his thoughts on a future beyond Formula 1. “I’d like to try something different in racing, but it would need to be something where I can be at home more often.”
Streak
After three previous wins in Zandvoort, Verstappen is expected to fight harder than ever on Sunday to keep the streak alive. “You won’t hear me say that we’re going to win again. Looking at how the season has gone so far, others can win here too. I’m focusing on a clean weekend and we’ll see what happens. We’re still working on improving the car. If we succeed, it will make things a bit easier for us.”
Love for Zandvoort
Verstappen also addressed the uncertainty about the future of the Dutch Grand Prix after 2025. “I love this circuit; it’s great to have a home Grand Prix. The decision isn’t up to me, but it’s certain that I’d love to keep coming here as long as there’s a Formula 1 race.”
A journalist then asked if he has a preference for how he’s cheered in this ‘music festival-like’ environment—whether he prefers “Max, Max, Max, Super Max” or “Boom, Boom Boom Boom, Max Verstappen.” The three-time world champion countered the reporter by asking if he might sing both songs for him. Smiling, he added: “I don’t really mind. I enjoy that the people here are having a great weekend. That’s more important.”
Trophy News 🏆
The winner of the Dutch Grand Prix will receive a trophy designed by Robbie Williams. The British world star is a huge fan of Formula 1 racing.
The design of the trophies for the best three drivers is inspired by the world star’s recent art collection, drawing attention to the harmful effects of (mental) pressure. Something that he has also experienced throughout his life. Following his recent exhibition at the Moco Museum in Amsterdam and his passion for Formula 1, the collaboration for the trophy came about.
Marcel van Luit
The well-known Dutch artist Marcel van Luit was responsible for the design of the Constructors’ Trophy. He brought together the essence of speed, nature and art in his design, with which he also wants to build a bridge between the rich heritage of the Netherlands and modern art.
Classic design
Just like last year, the trophies for the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix are based on the design that originated in 1939. The race in Zandvoort was not yet held on the circuit as it is now but took place entirely on a street circuit. The shape of the trophies was developed by Studio Piet Boon and they are all handmade by Royal Delft, the famous Dutch pottery company. Royal Delft has been creating high-quality Delft Blue since 1653.

This was Super Friday!
With various activities, including interviews with F1 drivers, multiple training sessions, performances by different artists, and a spectacular closing show by DJ Armin van Buuren (including a drone show), it was a big party! Look back on a day full of entertainment, music, and Formula 1 action.
Closing Party with Armin van Buuren
A spectacular Closing Party marked the end of Super Friday. The thousands of fans who stayed until the end were treated to a dazzling performance by Armin van Buuren in the Fanzone.
Armin van Buuren himself was also quite impressed. “This shows once again that the Netherlands is at the forefront of these kinds of productions. The combination with the drone show was amazing. Really awesome. My heart beats for Formula 1. I’ve been watching since the glory days of Damon Hill. Tonight, I used quotes from Ayrton Senna in one of the songs, as a sort of tribute. I truly hope that Formula 1 will remain in Zandvoort for a long time to come.”

Super Friday Openingsshow - Performance by Snollebollekes
After the Q&A session with drivers from teams like Red Bull, Williams, and McLaren, it was time for the opening show by Snollebollekes. Rob Kemps: “I have never set my alarm at 7 o’clock for a performance in the morning. Usually the party doesn’t start until 11 in the evening. I have performed on many stages, but this is very special. That everyone is already hopping at this hour is something new for me.”
The Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix fans sure know how to throw a party! 🙌
F1 Academy driver Emely de Heus 'excited' about her home race
For the first time this year, the F1 Academy in Zandvoort has been combined with the race week of the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix. Three Dutch drivers will get into action from today in the young, but already spectacular Formula 1 racing class for women.
Emely de Heus and Maya Weug are two of the regular drivers this season and Nina Gademan is making her debut at the Zandvoort circuit thanks to a wildcard. The only 20-year-old driver drives the so-called Female Quotient car for the PREMA Racing team.
It is the second time that the F1 Academy visits Zandvoort, but last year it happened two months before the Dutch Grand Prix. The race has now been included in the week of the largest sporting event in the Netherlands. Today are the two free practice sessions (morning and afternoon), tomorrow the qualifications and the first race and Sunday morning the second and final race.
Emely de Heus, supported by Red Bull Ford and driving for MP Motorsport, has been looking forward to this for weeks. “It is my home race and that is of course the best
thing there is. I’m excited. There are so many Dutch fans here. Of course they come for the races, but the circuit with its steep curves also has a great appeal”; says 21-year-old De Heus, who in the meantime puts her more in the picture of riding in front of her own audience. “There will be a lot of friends and family in the stands. It will be a busy weekend for me, but also fun. I have high expectations myself. However, I don’t want to push it too much. I am aiming for a place in the top 5.”
NEW: DGP Race Radio!📻
New this year is the DGP Race Radio, to be followed on FM 88.4 and via the Dutch GP app. The presentation is in the hands of Anne-Greet Haars and Formula 1 analyst Allard Kalff, known from Viaplay. The broadcasts will begin from today at the start of F1 Academy (10:10). Via the DGP Race Radio, Viaplay’s commentary and the sound coming from the track’s speakers, can be heard.
The presenters make previews leading up to the free practices, qualifying and the race, with various guests tuning in. Handy to bring your earbuds or headphones when you want to listen to the broadcasts from the track, or fun to listen from home.😉

It's Super Friday!
This year, we’re making Super Friday bigger than ever! We start the day with the Opening Show in the Fanzone (10:25 AM). On stage, drivers from Red Bull, Aston Martin, McLaren, VCARB, Williams, and Stake will be interviewed, and Snollebollekes will get everyone dancing from left to right.
When the Opening Show has ended, the first training session for the women’s teams of the F1 Academy (10:10 to 10:50) is already over. Visitors can then witness the first Dutch GP Trackshow in the Arena and on the Main Straight (11:30 AM to 12:00 PM). At 12:30 PM, it’s time to release the ‘roaring cars’ from the pit boxes for the first Formula 1 free practice.
At 2:55 PM, team principals Christian Horner (Red Bull), Zac Brown (McLaren), and Alunni Bravi (Stack) will face a Q&A session in the Arena, and an hour later, the Formula 1 cars will begin their second free practice. After that, we go back to the F1 Academy for their second free practice (5:30 to 6:10 PM), after which we start gearing up for a spectacular party in the Fanzone.
Kicking things off is the Dutch Hour with Yves Berendse, Xander de Buisonjé, and Wolter Kroes. Followed by the Closing Party (7:15 PM) where DI-RECT will perform a thrilling set, and none other than DJ Armin van Buuren will keep the party going until 9:30 PM with a spectacular and unmatched drone show as a visual highlight!
Our fans know how to party🥳

Max: “Satisfied with the first row”
For Lando, the last lap at Zandvoort felt like his best Q lap this season. “The car was good and I was good. It’s not an easy circuit, especially with the wind, but I feel very comfortable this weekend. I am quite surprised that the gap with Max is more than three-tenths, but that does not mean that I will have it under control tomorrow.”
Verstappen certainly does not accept a Lando triumph in advance. “But I don’t feel completely comfortable in the car yet. The balance is not yet in order and I have lost some time somewhere in every lap. But maybe I want to hold on to something that is not there now,” Verstappen referred to the end of dominance. “On the other hand, in Q1 and Q2 I didn’t think I could get involved in the battle for pole at all and tomorrow I will be on the front row. I can be satisfied with that.”
Oscar Piastri, teammate of Norris and starting from third place. “We will see what strategy Red Bull chooses tomorrow. That could still be interesting. Our cars are good. Compared to last year we have gained 1.5 seconds. That’s crazy.” Piastri certainly wants to go for his own chances tomorrow. “There are no agreements within the team in that regard. We get to race against each other.” “The only rule is that we don’t run each other off the road,” added Norris.
Norris on pole, Verstappen next to him
From wet to dry, from practice to the real thing. Today’s Qualification of the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix bore little resemblance to the last free practice in the morning. Not only was it wet during FP3, but due to Logan Sargeant’s accident after 14 minutes, that session ultimately lasted no more than fifteen minutes.
Fortunately, the Qualification in the afternoon took the full 45 minutes. A mistake in Q2 cost Lewis Hamilton his entrance to the finale Q and Carlos Sainz was lost there. The McLarens seemed to be ‘under control’, with Max Verstappen close behind. The Dutchman managed to squeeze between the two McLarens in Q3. This means he will be on the front row tomorrow next to Lando Norris.

Zandvoort's racing DNA🏁
The number of fluttering finish flags in the streets of Zandvoort this week cannot be counted. No doubt the seaside town has embraced the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix. The sound of rolling suitcases could be heard incessantly in Zandvoort last days. Fans, employees and volunteers often arrived by train in the cosy village, where you cannot fail to notice that the Dutch Grand Prix is being held for the fourth time this century.
Hotels, recreational parks, guesthouses and B&Bs are full. The Van Speijkstraat, the shortest route on foot from the train station to the circuit, is more like a continuous finish street. It is teeming with black and white checkered flags. In the evening, residents gather together in the garden or on the terrace for a beer and a barbecue, with the sound of fluttering banners in the background. Here and there larger flags and banners hang from the houses, some to encourage local hero Max Verstappen. In many restaurants the Max burger is on the menu and waitresses place a placemat with a finish flag design on the table before your plate is placed on it. Zandvoort breathes motorsport. The village and its inhabitants are proud of their racing DNA and honor their heroes. Zandvoort, home of the Dutch Grand Prix!

WAKEY WAKEY!⛺
The convivial atmosphere in the stands skips effortlessly to the Official 538 Dutch Grand Prix Village. Or the other way around? That’s the question. The fact is that the campsite right next to the Zandvoort circuit is almost impossible to imagine without.
If you take a look early in the morning, you may still find some peace and quietness. After that, it is mostly all bustle and sociability. “In the beginning it took some getting used to the noise and the wind, but actually there is only one word for it: great,” says Maxime from Nieuwegein. She is one of nearly 2,000 camping guests this week with tickets to the Dutch Grand Prix. But there are also campers without tickets. Those are just there for the atmosphere and the parties including deejays from 538. “You know that not much will come of sleeping,” said Joep from Zwolle. “But that’s not a bad thing, you still want to enjoy such a week here to the maximum.”
The Dutch Grand Prix Village has its own catering facilities. Part of the campground is also reserved for volunteers who lend a hand during Grand Prix week. Tents and lodges are already being set up at the campground the week before the Grand Prix. From simple to luxurious, from 2-person to 12-person. In total there are about 400 of them, but you can also bring your own tent. But for almost every Formula 1 fan who sleeps here, the rule is: coziness takes precedence over sleep.
Good Morning, Qualifying Saturday! 👋
Who will secure the best spot on the grid for tomorrow’s race? Take your pick, because it’s Qualifying Saturday! At 10:30 AM, the drivers from Haas, Alpine, Ferrari, and Mercedes will head to the Fanzone for the Drivers’ Q&A. Slightly earlier, the F1 Academy teams, including three Dutch female racers, will start their Qualifying Session. They will also appear on stage in the Fanzone for a Q&A at 1:40 PM.
Qualifications
By 3:00 PM, make sure you’ve found your spot in the stands (or in front of the TV) for the Formula 1 qualifying, followed shortly after by the first F1 Academy race at 5:00 PM. The second race is tomorrow. Oh, and did we mention the nearly non-stop party in the Arena and Main Straight with the Dutch GP Trackshow, featuring Mental Theo among others? The festivities kick off at 5:30 PM in the Fanzone with performances by Marco Schuitemaker, Django Wagner, Davina Michelle, and a closing set by DJ La Fuente!
Weather Update
Expect a few sprinkles. Max Verstappen said earlier this week that it will only make qualifying more exciting. But there’s also a good chance we’ll see the sun. The wind has calmed to moderate from the west. As for the temperature, no complaints: 21 degrees Celsius. Chances of spectacle? 100%!

Today's podium🏆
Lando Norris ended Max Verstappen’s winning streak today, which had been going for the last three races. Verstappen had a great start and overtook Norris, who had started from pole position, even before the first corner. “I was driving for second place today, even though the start was good. Of course, I would have preferred to win today, but I can’t win them all,” said Max Verstappen.
Norris, on the other hand, quickly realized that his car was fast enough today, even when he was still behind Verstappen. “It wasn’t a perfect race because the first lap was not great, of course. After I regained the lead, I expected Max to keep pushing. When that didn’t happen, I knew I was going to win the race.”

Tension is rising...🥵 2 hours until Pre-Race Show
This year’s Pre-Race Show will be provided by Kris Kross Amsterdam, Tino Martin, Hans Klok and Duncan Laurence. Together with the 90,000 fans in all stands, these artists will create the ‘flag action’. Tino Martin will sing an Amsterdam Medley, turning the entire race track red, white, and blue. Kris Kross Amsterdam will energize the crowd with their performance leading up to the start of the race. They will be supported by Advendo Sneek, one of the country’s top showbands. Advendo will provide musical accompaniment and impressive race-themed formations on the main straight. Duncan Laurence, the internationally renowned Dutch singer and winner of the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest, has the honor of singing the national anthem. It promises to be another great spectacle!
Kris Kross Amsterdam: “Since the first edition, we have had the honor of experiencing the Dutch Grand Prix live. Every year, just before the starting signal, we got goosebumps because it is such a magnificent race spectacle. To be responsible for that moment this year, on the asphalt of Circuit Zandvoort and just before the race begins, is not only a great honor but also one of the absolute highlights of our musical career!”
Illusionist Hans Klok will unveil the redesigned trophy for the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix 2024 in a spectacular reveal during the show.
Double delight in F1 Academy
Due to a ‘rained out’ race yesterday, two races in the F1 Academy were scheduled today. Abbi Pulling won the first, the French Doriane Pin the second. For Pulling it was her fifth victory of the season. In the second race, the British was on the 3rd step of the podium.
The only other driver who also managed to score two Top-3’s was the Dutch Maya Weug. With a 3rd and 2nd place, the 20-year-old Ferrari Driver Academy driver could look back on a fantastic weekend.
Nina Gademan surprised with a 4th place in the first race. This means she will go down as the first driver with a wildcard to drive in the points. In the second race she crossed the finish line in the same position but was dropped to 10th place due to a ten-second time penalty for causing a collision.
Largest Flag activation in Dutch Sports History
The 2023 Pre-Race Show, featuring André Rieu and Dutch flag show on the main straight, received global recognition. This year, the iconic flag activation will be extended to the entire circuit. Together with 90,000 fans and accordionist Hans Kap, Tino Martin will perform an Amsterdam Medley, transforming all grandstands into a sea of red, white, and blue. We can’t wait to see the stands turn red, white and blue again.❤️🤍💙

150.000 flowers🤯
The Driver’s Parade is an event to look forward to every year. Two hours before the start of the race, the drivers are presented to the fans during a tour on the circuit. This will happen again in a special way for this edition. The drivers are driven around on a float with 150,000 flowers from the Bollenstreek. The collaboration with the widely famous Flower Parade from that region, the international calling card of the Netherlands when it comes to flower cultivation, has led to an impressive project. In the week before the Grand Prix, around sixty volunteers picked 150,000 dahlias from the grower as late as possible, which were then planted by about twenty experts on the Formula 1-style float, designed by Michael van Namen.
Sunday, D-day!
It takes some getting used to. When the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix starts this afternoon at 3:00 p.m., Max Verstappen will not be in the front seat. But before the lights go green for that race, the race fans have already been well served. The first battles are fought in the F1 Academy. Yesterday’s rained-out race is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. and the originally planned second race is scheduled for 10:40 a.m. Will we see at least one of our three Dutch racing heroes on the podium there? The chance of Dutch success is also certainly there in the Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup (11.55 a.m.).
Then we slowly prepare for the main menu. DJ La Fuente will pump up the atmosphere with his beats on the grid and Main Straight and then it is time for
the Driver’s Parade, this year in floral style. Much has been said and written about the Opening Ceremony, but we certainly can’t get enough of it. The rendition of the Wilhelmus by Eurovision Song Contest winner Duncan Laurence will certainly be a goosebump moment and the largest flag parade with at least 90,000 flags will undoubtedly travel around the world. Then we are warmed up for ‘The Great Final’! Who will win the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix 2024? We’ll know around 5 p.m..
After the champagne has been uncorked and the winner has been waved goodbye, we continue the party in the Fanzone. What a line-up to end a fantastic week: Joël Borelli, Flemming, Tino Martin and Kris Kross Amsterdam! At 9 p.m. we close the gates, which will open again next year. Do you already have tickets for the 2025 edition? You can still buy them until August 31, 2024! So put yourself on pole and buy all your tickets now, via: https://shop.ticketing.cm.com/dgp-sale-2025/.
Weather forecast
Of course we can’t promise anything, but it looks like it will remain dry in Zandvoort today. The temperature may drop slightly compared to the previous days, but we will most likely get a heated battle on the asphalt this afternoon. There’s a good chance we’ll still go to see the sun. That goes well with all the orange in the stands.
